(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle ;; []).push(()); As the EfficientCEO my focus is typically centered on automation, process improvements, technology innovations and all things efficient. And then a reality-jarring event like the earthquake in Haiti occurs. As a Californian an earthquake anywhere strikes especially close to home and I'm reminded of how fragile our complex worlds truly are. While we have the luxury of earthquake building standards and extensive resources to recover from an earthquake, Haiti does not. And even with our luxuries we all live with risk and peril of unsafe drinking water resulting from a catastrophe. This lead me to think about two aspects regarding tragedy: a) how can I help others in need, and b) what will I do to ensure my own safety if I don't have safe drinking water? While I would love to donate my software services, what Haiti really needs right now is clean water and supplies. Although I can send cash, doing so doesn't feel fulfilling or impactful. That's why I turned to my friend who owns a water bottle company: the president of Ecousable. Ecousable's Ech2o filtered water bottle is ideal for helping Haiti. It's a personal water filtration system in a stainless steel bottle. The Ech2o bottle is durable (stainless steel), free of all contaminants (BPA-free), and filters up to 100 gallons of water from virtually any source (except salt water). Efficient Technology Inc has partnered up with Ecousable to donate filtered water bottles to Haiti. We built a website to sell Ech2o bottles and for every two Ech2o bottles sold between now and March 31, 2010 Efficient Technology Inc will donate one bottle to the Haiti earthquake relief effort. There's so much to like about this approach to helping Haiti. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle ;; []).push(()); NOTE: I personally know about water-related illness while traveling! During my three week vacation in South Africa (Dec '09 to Jan '10) I used my Ech2o bottle non-stop. One day we went to a Chinese restaurant. Although I was tempted to trust restaurant tap water I didn't trust this place and poured my glass of water into my filtered bottle to drink it. Unfortunately, my girlfriend didn't do the same and drank the tap water straight. She ended up in bed sick for five days with a horrible stomach bug. The Ech2o bottle has proven itself as an extremely effective, convenient and safe way to filter water wherever you are. I have even drunk pool water with mine and the water tasted great.
